Complaint leads to drug arrest in Cawood


Man indicted on multiple drug charges

A Lynch man is facing drug charges after police responded to a drug complaint in the Cawood area.

Jonathan Howard, 25, was arrested by Harlan County Sheriff’s Deputy Chris Brewer on Wednesday.

According to a press release, the Harlan County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint concerning drug activity in the Cawood area. An investigation determined Howard was in possession of methamphetamine, prescription drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Howard was charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and prescription controlled substance not in original container.

The case is under investigation by Brewer. Deputy Danny Lewis and Kentucky State Police Trooper Jake Spurlock assisted in the investigation.

Howard was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on a $2,500 full cash bond.

In other police activity:

• Dennis Smith, 32, of Baxter, was arrested on an indictment warrant by Lewis on Wednesday. He was indicted on two counts of first-degree trafficking a controlled substance and lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on two cash bonds totaling $5,000;

• Fred Hensley, 69, of Loyall, was arrested on an indictment warrant by Loyall City Police Chief Mike Lunsford on Thursday. Hensley was indicted for five counts of first-degree trafficking a controlled substance, three counts of second-degree trafficking a controlled substance, trafficking in legend drugs, receiving stolen property under $500 and false statement/misrepresent to receive benefits over $100. He was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on full cash bonds totaling $11,500;

• Jessica Amburgy, 25, of Baxter, was arrested by Lunsford on Thursday on an indictment warrant. She was indicted for receiving stolen property under $500 and tampering with physical evidence. Amburgy was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on a $2,500 full cash bond;

• Boyd Johnson, 65, of Loyall, was arrested by Brewer on an indictment warrant on Thursday. He was indicted for first-degree trafficking a controlled substance and lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on a $2,500 full cash bond;

• Georgia Johnson, 57, of Loyall, was arrested on an indictment warrant on Thursday by Brewer. She was indicted for first-degree trafficking a controlled substance and lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on a $2,000 full cash bond;

• Angela Nolan, 43, of Loyall, was arrested on an indictment warrant by Lunsford on Thursday. She was indicted for first-degree promoting contraband, second-degree possession of a controlled substance and tampering with physical evidence. She was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on a $3,000 full cash bond.
