Local author Candida Sullivan is celebrating a book of the year award from the Christian Small Publishers Association. This award honors books produced by small publishers each year for outstanding contribution to Christian life. Book lovers and retailers from around the world vote on the nominated titles in each of twelve categories. “Despite Your Circumstances” won 2016 best book in the Christian Living category. In this book, Sullivan uses her real-life examples of seemingly impossible situations to prove that everyone can be an overcomer despite their circumstances.

“We all reach valleys that test our strength and determination, and make us want to give up. It is during these times that we need to remember our purpose and keep progressing for the greater good of our lives,” says Sullivan. “I hope this book helps others like it has helped me.”

Sullivan, a survivor of Amniotic Band Syndrome, travels regularly to schools, literary festivals and other events across the country, using her scars and speaking from her own experiences with bullying to help people of all ages overcome their hardships and learn to celebrate their differences. She is the author of several other books including “Underneath the Scars,” “Zippy and the Stripes of Courage,” “Zippy’s Big Difference,” and “Zippy’s Club.”

Sullivan’s books are helping a wide variety of folks dealing with circumstances including amputation, scarring and birthmarks. In addition, these books assist children (as well as their parents) in dealing with the aftermath of surgical, chemotherapy and radiation treatment. Most of all, the books help those dealing with issues of bullying or self-worth. All of Sullivan’s books are available wherever books are sold.

The inspirational author says she is overjoyed at the award for her amazing journey.

“My heart is overjoyed. I’m so grateful to everyone who extended their kindness and support to me and helped me to win this award,” said Sullivan. “This has been an amazing journey with my Lord. I owe it all to Him.”
