Women’s self-defense class held

Photos submitted The Harlan County Domestic Violence Council hosted their semi-annual “Fight Like A Girl” women’s self-defense class on March 19 at the Harlan Center. The class was open to all women and girls in the county at no charge. In collaboration with Master Dan Howard of Howard Family Karate, the class is offered twice yearly, in March and October. Tiffany Cooper is shown practicing what she’s learned on Instructor Dan Howard.

Approximately 40 women attended the class and were instructed by karate Master Dan Howard in various strategies and techniques to help extricate and survive a violent encounter. The techniques taught are simple and can be done by anyone at most any fitness level. Here, Linda and Crystal Blevins practice their techniques.
