Traditional music of British Isles planned

Special to Civitas Media

Iona will be featured in concert beginning at 7 p.m. on March 17 at Lee Theatre in Pennington Gap, Virginia.

Iona’s music is a unique acoustic weave of the traditional music of Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Cornwall, Brittany, the Isle of Man, Asturias and Galicia, as well as their transplants in America.

They blend songs, dance tunes and airs into a rich and stunning tapestry in a style which is outstanding in an arena where these traditions are seldom intertwined.

All members of Iona are seasoned performers, entertainers who involve their audiences with the history and cultural backgrounds of the music, teaching words to the songs, even in Celtic tongues, and leading simple Breton dances with humor, using every emotion in the spectrum.

Tickets are $15, adults; $10, seniors; and $5, students. Students at UVa-Wise and MECC as well as children under 5 are admitted free of charge.

This Saint Patrick’s Day event is sponsored by Pro-Art Association. The program is partially supported by the Virginia Commission of the Arts and National Endowment for the Arts.
