HARROGATE, Tenn. — Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) will host the Knoxville Opera for an abbreviated performance of Humperdink’s Hansel and Gretel Jan. 22, at 1 and 4 p.m., in the Sam and Sue Mars Performing Arts Center in the Duke Hall of Citizenship.
The Knoxville Opera will present a 40-minute staged and costumed condensed performance in English of the beloved tale of two poor children whose goodness and faith triumph over an evil witch. A question and answer session will follow the performance and the audience is invited on stage to take photos with the performers at the conclusion of the event.
The program will feature Executive Director and Conductor Brian Salesky, mezzosoprano Leah Serr, soprano Rachel Policar and mezzosoprano Elizabeth Peterson. The high-energy, entertaining presentation is part of Knoxville Opera’s extensive community outreach initiative aimed at introducing opera to new audiences.
The program is free and open to the public. LMU Chairman O.V. “Pete” DeBusk and his wife, Cindi, have sponsored the event. A number of school groups will be in attendance for the 1 p.m. show, so seating could be limited.
