BEREA – The Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea celebrates Gov. Steve Beshear’s Proclamation of December 2015, as “Give a Gift Made in Kentucky Month.”

Kentucky is known around the world for its talented artisans. With this proclamation, the governor recognizes the creative talents of Kentuckians and the high quality of products they create.

The proclamation states: “a locally made gift is unique in its connection with the maker and the Commonwealth … and buying Kentucky-made products contributes significantly to local economies and the quality of life in Kentucky.”

“Give a Gift Made in Kentucky” highlights December as the month to shop for wonderful Kentucky-made items. Whether shopping for gifts or preparing your home for the holidays, the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea is the place to discover distinctive Kentucky-made treasures.

Visitors can enjoy selecting gifts from the thousands of products created by the over 700 Kentucky artisans. From books, to musical recordings, specialty foods, sculpture, jewelry, pottery, beauty products and paintings – there are plenty of exceptional choices for holiday gift giving.

In December the center also presents artisan book signings, musical performances and demonstrations on Saturdays throughout the holiday season, and the Artisan Café offers Kentucky cuisine to make holiday shopping a pleasure.

The Kentucky Unbridled Spirit Gift Card is another way to purchase Kentucky-made gifts for that hard-to-buy-for person. Gift cards purchased at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea can be used at the center, and can also be used at the Kentucky Horse Park, the Kentucky Historical Society, and at all Kentucky State Parks.

The Kentucky Artisan Center is located just off Interstate 75 at Berea Exit 77. The center’s exhibits, shopping and travel information areas are open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and the cafe is open from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.

A special exhibit at the center, “It Takes Two: Collaborations by Kentucky Artisans,” is on display through Feb. 27, and the center’s lobby showcases an 18-foot Christmas tree with colorful ornaments made by Kentucky artisans.
