Local talent Chris Ellis recently signed to Chappell Entertainment Corporation after impressing representatives of the label when he opened for Molly Hatchet, Blackfoot and Jimmie Van Zant at the first ever ‘Smoke in the Valley’ festival in Tazewell, Tennessee.
Ellis grew up in Harrogate, Tennessee, and has always had a love for music. At nine years old, he fronted his own band. At 14 years old, he began writing original music for his friends and family. Since that time, he began performing live and touring all over the southeastern United States — trying to further his musical career. Locally, Ellis has played at Angelo’s in the Gap, The Mustang, The Oasis and numerous festivals. He has acquired quite a following of fans that travel through the Tri-State area to see him perform.
As proud as Ellis is to be from Appalachia, he is excited to see what the future has in store for him at Chappell. He says while his tour dates have not been set, they will soon be released online. Ellis is eager to start touring and sharing his music outside his hometown.
President of Chappell Entertainment Corporation Chap Chappell stated in a press release that Ellis blew him away and calls him the “real deal.”
“When I first saw Chris Ellis perform, I was blown away,” said Chappell. “He is the real deal and is one of the few artists I have encountered over the years that thoroughly translates his emotions through his music.”
Chappell goes on to compare Ellis to the likes of musical legend Bruce Springsteen.
“He is a genuine talent with an electric vibe a la Springsteen,” continued Chappell. “We are happy to have him on board.”
Ellis will only have a few more local concerts before starting tour next month with Chappell. He is scheduled to be at The Bottoms Up Lounge in Cumberland at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday. He is also ironing out tour dates at The Oasis and will keep fans posted on social media.
Ellis currently has songs out on iTunes, reverbnation and other social media websites. Although he cannot give a specific date for when future music will be released, Ellis says he is looking forward to letting fans hear some of his new music.
In addition to releasing new music, some of Ellis’ songs may be recorded by other artists or used in commercials.
