The Bank of Harlan Outstanding Student Citizens of the Month for the beginning of the 2015-2016 school year have been announced.

The program was established to honor outstanding students in the Harlan County and Harlan Independent school districts. Faculty members of each district nominate a student that demonstrates exceptionalism.

“This may be in sports, academic achievement, leadership or community participation,” said Steve Tolliver, president of The Bank of Harlan.

In addition to the award, the honoree receives a $100 honorarium.

Katelyn Reynolds, a senior at Harlan County High School, has been named The Bank of Harlan Outstanding Student Citizen of the Month for August. Reynolds is a member of the volleyball team, gifted leadership, National Honor Society, Beta Club, student council and First Priority.

The daughter of Jon and Stephanie Reynolds, she is planning to attend Eastern Kentucky University or Lincoln Memorial University to pursue a degree in nursing.

Whitney Barger, a senior at Harlan County High School, has been named The Bank of Harlan Outstanding Student Citizen of the Month for September. Barger is a member of the Harlan County High School Choir, FCCLA, junior chef competition team, cross country, First Priority Leadership and was named a Berea Pinnacle Scholar.

She is the daughter of Rich and Kateena Haynes, of Cumberland.

Braydan Roark, a junior at Harlan County High School, has been named The Bank of Harlan Outstanding Student Citizen of the Month for October.

Roark is a Rogers Scholar and member of the academic team, National Honor Society, Beta Club, gifted leadership and football team.

He is the son of Brent and Kris Roark.
