The Harlan Area Retired Teachers Association recently met at the Harlan County Extension Depot.
After the Pledge of Allegiance, Mary Lynn Pace led the group in prayer. A delicious buffet was enjoyed by attendees. Carol Flanagan, secretary, read the report from the previous meeting. Karen Alred was absent, but Polly McLain, president, read the financial report.
McLain also read a list of retirees that are not members of the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association. It is essential to join the KRTA — there is strength in numbers when it comes to bargaining efforts on the group’s behalf. The yearly membership cost is $25 (can be deducted electronically from your bank account each November).
Seven members attended a very informative workshop at the Pine Mountain State Resort Park lodge in Pineville.
Due to a scheduling conflict at the Depot, the next meeting is scheduled at 2 p.m. on Dec. 8. The group project for December will be supporting a family from the Angel Tree. School supplies will also be collected for James A. Cawood Elementary School. Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus will also be present. Feel free to bring children for a visit.
Door prizes were awarded to Wallace Napier and Connie Brock.
Those attending were Wanda Witt, Wanda King, Shirley Miller, Mary Lynn Pace, Charles Lovely, George Ann Lovely, Polly McLain, Kim Kelly, Patsy Howard, Evelyn Dixon, Wallace Napier, Connie Brock, Adury Mauk, Dallas Messer, Teena Sergent, Elaine Landis, Carol Flanagan, Raymond Cox and Cathy Marlow.
