The Harlan Area Retired Teachers met at the Harlan County Extension Depot. Following the Pledge of Allegiance, Carol Flanagan led the group in prayer and a pot luck dinner was enjoyed by attendees.
Kristal Burke, of Harlan ARH Hospital, gave an informative slide presentation on stoke facts and what you need to know. A stroke is a brain attack and is the No. 1 cause of disability. White stroke, time lost is brain lost, and 80 percent of strokes are preventable.
Rachel Baker Jenkins, also from ARH, monitored blood pressure numbers for those members wishing to participate.
The next meeting is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Aug. 9. School supplies will be collected and donated to James A. Cawood Elementary School.
Door prizes were awarded to Edna McDaniel and Wallace Napier.
