HMS Choir Spring Awards Concert

The Harlan Middle School Choir, under the direction of Marilyn Schraeder, held their Spring Awards Concert at Harlan Baptist Church. Clara Atkins-Pope is the assistant director/accompanist.

Prior to the concert, Makenna Jackson performed a vocal solo and Emma Eversole performed two piano selections.

The choir performed the following selections: “Why We Sing,” “Instrument of Peace,” “Laudamus Te,” “God Made Our Hands,” “I Was Here,” “Home,” “Gaudeamus Hodie (Let Us Rejoice Today)” and “Can’t Help Falling in Love.”

During the Eighth Grade Recognition, Breanna Smith and Lauren Nunez performed vocal solos.

The eighth graders sang “You Can Count on Me.” The choir’s final selection was “An Irish Blessing.”

Awards included the following:

Honor choir participants: KY-ACDA Children’s Chorus in Bowling Green — Emilee Howard, Bailee Maples, Campbell Nunez and Eliza Smith; Vocal Achievement — Emilee Howard, Bailee Maples, Campbell Nunez and Eliza Smith.

Certificates were presented to the following for their participation in the SKMA Jr. High All-Festival in London: Fifth-and sixth-graders — Maleah Doss, Elizabeth Esan, Emma Eversole, Lacie Garland, Erin Graves, Makenna Jackson, Peighton Jones, Harley Moses, Mia Claire Pace and Di’mond Turner; seventh- and eighth-graders — Abigail Baker, Makenna Doss, Emma Fisher, Natalee King, Madison Lawson, Madison Middleton, Lauren Nunez, Mika Pasqual, Sarah-Ashley Sellers and Abbi Witt.

Instrumental Achievement Certificates were presented to the following girls that take private instrumental lessons: Makenna Doss, Maleah Doss, Emma Eversole, Emilee Howard, Makenna Jackson, Eliza Smith and Abbi Witt.

Angelina Skidmore received a Shining Star Certificate.

Plaques were presented to the following: Outstanding I Soprano — Emma Fisher; Outstanding II Soprano — Breanna Smith; Outstanding Alto — Lauren Nunez; Outstanding fifth-grader —Alyssa Gibson; Outstanding sixth-grader — Maleah Doss; Outstanding seventh-grader — Abbi Witt; Outstanding eighth-graders — Makenna Doss and Breanna Smith.

Director’s Award: Abigail Baker.

Charlotte Nolan Award: Sarah-Ashley Sellers.

Best All-Around eighth-grader: Makenna Doss.

Outstanding Member: Lauren Nunez.

Eighth-grade members received a charm: Abigail Baker, Makenna Doss, Madison Epperson, Emma Fisher, Natalee King, Madison Lawson, Madison Middleton, Lauren Nunez, Mika Pascual, Rebekah Roark, Sarah-Ashley Sellers, Breanna Smith and Kali Truitt.
