Local essay contest winners announced


Andrew Tolliver, a fifth-grade student in Andy Howard’s class at Green Hills Elementary School, won the school essay contest for Grandparent of the Year, sponsored by AARP. Tolliver placed third in the District Governor’s Cup in social studies. Principal Jonathan Perkins said, “Andrew is a dedicated, hardworking young man who gives his best effort in everything that he does. Congratulations Andrew on your success!”


Fifth-graders at Cumberland Elementary School also participated in the AARP Grandparent of the Year essay contest. The school winner is Emily Honaker.
