Diamondbacks, Mets advance to championship game

The Jewelcraft Diamondbacks and Harlan Rotary Mets rolled into the finals of the Harlan Little League tournament with blowout semifinal victories Monday.

James Chasteen pitched a three- hitter with nine strikeouts as the Harlan Rotary Mets defeated the Home Federal Red Sox 14-4.

Jordan Steele led the Mets at the plate with a triple. Nick Hunting and James Gray added singles.

Jacob Thompson had an inside the park homer and a triple for the Red Sox. Kobe Burkhart added a home run.

Burkhart and Ethan Cornett pitched two innings each.

The Jewelcraft Diamondbacks coasted to a 12-0 win as Brooks Pugh, Brady Adkins and Evan Browning teamed on a two-hit shutout. Pugh struck out three in two innings. Adkins and Browning each pitched one inning with one strikeout.

Akin Akinsanya led the Diamondbacks on offense with an inside the park homer along with a triple and single. Brady Adkins had a triple and double. Hunter Blevins added a triple and single. Caleb Adkins hit an inside the park homer. Pugh, Caleb Engle and Mikey Bargo contributed one single each.

Kanyon Hall had a double and Shane Hagle added a single for Don’s.

Fuelco defeated Don’s 4-1 in opening-round action Saturday.

Matt Brown, Jacob Brown and Joseph Gordon led the Yankees with one single each.

Matt Brown pitched 3 2/3 shutout innings with nine strikeouts and eight walks. Shane Hagle struck out four and walked one in 1 1/3 innings.

Jay Harris pitched for Don’s, striking out 15 and walking four in five innings.

Home Federal routed the Kentucky Mine Supply Reds 12-1 in another first-round game. Thompson led the Red Sox with an inside the park homer and a double. Gavin McLain and Burkhart had doubles. Cornett and Noah Canady added singles.

Thompson struck out six and allowed one hit in 2 2/3 innings on the mound. Cornett struck out four and allowed no hits in 1 1/3 innings.

Jewelcraft and Harlan Rotary are scheduled to play Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Harlan Little League tournament championship game at Huff Park.
