Lady Dragons split doubleheader to close regular season
Harlan fell 2-1 to Middlesboro and overpowered Barbourville 21-3 in middle school softball action Saturday at Middlesboro to close the regular season.
Ashley Overbay had two singles to lead the Lady Dragons. Jayda Young and Haven Saylor added one single each.
Overbay pitched a three-hitter with nine strikeouts and no walks.
Middlesboro broke a scoreless tie with a run in the fourth inning. Young singled in the fifth inning, then moved to third on Saylor’s hit and scored on a passed ball. Overbay singled to lead off the sixth inning, then stole second and third. Mackenzie King was called out on a close play to end the threat. Middlesboro won the game in the bottom of the sixth.
Harlan scored 15 runs in the first inning in the win over Barbourville.
Payton Bennett pitched a one-hitter, striking out five and walking five.
Katelyn Burkhart and Overbay had a triple and two singles each. King and Ann Marie Bianchi added a double and single each. Bennett singled twice. Tori Hill had a triple. Emersyn Noah, Brooklyn Collins, Emily Bryant, Emily Sizemore and Lauren Nunez added singles.
Harlan fell 5-2 to Clay County in previously unreported action.
King led Harlan with two singles. Burkhart, Overbay, Bennett and Bianchi had one single each.
Overbay pitched a three-hitter with five strikeouts and two walks.
Harlan will play host to Leslie County on Monday in conference tournament action.
Thompson’s two-run double caps comeback victory
The Home Federal Red Sox defeated the Jewelcraft Diamondbacks 12-11 in a dramatic come from behind win on Jacob Thompson’s two-out, two-run double as he completed the cycle.
Thompson drove in five runs with a homer, triple, double and single, while also scoring three runs. Ethan Cornett had three singles, two RBI and four stolen bases. Kobe Burkhart drove in three runs with three doubles and a single. Shane Lindsey had three singles. Braydon Shanks doubled twice. Noah Canady and Wil McCarthy singled twice each.
Burkhart struck out eight and walked four in three innings. Thompson fanned six and walked two in three innings.
Hunter Blevins led Jewelcraft with two doubles and a single. Brooks Pugh singled twice. Brady Adkins contributed a homer and single. Akin Akisanya added a homer.

Landis powers Kentucky Mine Supply past Red Sox
The Kentucky Mine Supply Reds won a 12-9 slugfest over the Home Federal Red Sox in Harlan Little League action Saturday.
Ben Landis had two triples and two singles to lead the Reds. Antonio Roman added a home, double and two singles. Andrew Roark had a double and two singles. Noah Lewis singled twice. Isaac Taulbee and Bruce Burgan added one single each.
Roman, Landis, Colby Johnson and Burgan shared mound duty.
Kobe Burkhart led the Red Sox with a grand slam and single. Braydon Shanks had a triple and single. Noah Canady and Shane Lindsey added one single each.
Cornett, McCarthy and Shanks saw action on the mound. Cornett struck out two in one inning before leaving with an injury. McCarthy fanned five in 2 1/3 innings. Shanks struck out five in 1 2/3 innings.
Estep’s no-hitter sends Braves to win over Rays
Eli Estep pitched a no-hitter as the Braves defeated the Rays 11-0 in Tri City Little League action on Tuesday. Estep struck out nine.
Riley Sheeks led the Braves’ offense with a double and single. Quinton Boggs had a double. Tye Howard, Estep and Hunter Cornett added singles.
The Braves routed the Nationals 11-2 behind Boggs’ one-hitter. Boggs fanned 15. Sheeks gave up one hit after coming on in relief.
Estep had three singles to lead the Braves on offense. Boggs added a triple and single. Chandler Smith doubled. Kenny Skidmore, Howard, Logan Blanton and Sheeks added singles. Mike Golden and Brad Wilson had singles for the Nationals.
Patrick Mandrell pitched a complete game.
Cornett’s slam powers Red Sox to win over Dodgers
Ethan Cornett and Braydon Shanks combined to drive in seven runs, as Cornett hit a grand slam and Shanks added a homer and double, to lead the Home Federal Red Sox to a 16-4 win over the Don’s Super Saver Dodgers on Thursday.
Jacob Thompson earned the win on the mound as he struck out nine and walked one in three innings. Shanks got one out in the fourth inning and Wil McCarthy got two to finish the game.
Jacob Thompson added a double and two singles. Noah Canady contributed two singles. Shane Lindsey added one single.
James Harris struck out 14 and walked two as he suffered the loss.
Caleb Brewer singled for the only Don’s hit.
