The Harlan County Ridge Runners (HCRR) will host their annual Ramp Fest April 12 at the North Evarts RV Campground. An ATV ride will leave from the campground at 9 a.m. and hope to return by 4:30 p.m.
“Let me make note that this ride is offered to all and not just club members,” said HCRR President Bill Troutman. “There has been a misunderstanding in the past that you had to be a member to go on these rides — not true. We just ask that you have riding experience and can handle an ATV or side-by-side.”
Serving of food for Ramp Fest will begin at 5 p.m. with the usual menu of soup beans, fried taters, Polish sausage, fried cornbread fritters, cooked cabbage and cooked ramps. Music will be provided by the band Overdrive.
“For some of the kids or others that don’t like the ramp, we will offer hot dogs as well,” said Troutman. “Dessert, again this year, will be provided by the Evarts Tourism Commission. The meal, as always, will be free of charge, but a donation jar will be set up this year for one of our own, Scotty Moore Medical Fund, who is still recovering from severe burns in Augusta, Ga.”
Troutman said also available for sale during the event will be a limited supply of 2014 Ramp Fest T-shirts.
“We’d like for everyone to respect others, and give them a chance to eat as well, so, no carry outs unless we fix it for you,” said Troutman. “We welcome all that wish to attend, so come out and enjoy Ramp Fest. We’re hoping for some warm weather and a good day of fellowship with others.”
