Opening Village Post Offices (VPO) across the county, U.S. Postal Service personnel officially opened their 58th VPO in their Kentuckiana District at Green’s Grocery in Pathfork on Tuesday.
Jim Green owner of Green’s Grocery, located at 5239 East Highway 72 in Pathfork, said he is “excited” to be a part of the Village Post Office plan.
“I think it’s a service that will probably end up for most of the rural communities,” said Green. “People do need a place where they can go get stamps after the post office closes. I’d hate to see our post office closed permanently, and they tell me they have no immediate plans for that. The Village Post Offices are convenient for the community and I’m proud to do it. It’s not a lot of money, but it’s a service to my community.”
Green said his grocery is open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and closed on Sundays. For more information, you may contact Green at 606-664-2341.
“We’ve had several meetings, but we know when we go out which areas need the Village Post Offices the most,” said VPO Coordinator Nick Walker. “We came to Green’s Grocery because it’s a great location just across the road from the Pathfork Post Office.”
Walker said Village Post Offices are operated by community businesses to provide selected postal products and services, including Forever stamps and priority mail flat rate packages and envelopes. He said these retail units may also provide post office boxes either inside or outside the business, but one will not be located at Green’s Grocery because of its close proximity to the Pathfork Post Office.
The Pathfork Post Office hours are Monday through Friday 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
