HCHS competes in SEKC scrimmage

The Harlan County Lady Bears downed Pineville, while the Black Bears earned a draw against the Mountain Lions in the Southeastern Kentucky Conference Panorama on Friday.


Brooklyn Massingill, one of the 13th Region’s top-rated players picked up right where she left off. The sophomore drained six-3-pointers on her way to a 24 point outing to lead Harlan County to a 61-39 victory over host Pineville.


The Lady Bears won all four quarters in Friday’s scrimmage. Harlan County’s most dominant performance came in the final period, when the Lady Bears outscored Pineville 16-4.


Harlan County opens the regular season Dec. 2 at Clay County.


The Harlan County Boys turned in a dominant defensive performance in the first quarter and rallied in the fourth to tie Pineville.


Junior guard Cody Bumgardner was the only Black Bear in double figures with 10 points. Trey Sanders, also a junior guard, added nine. Freshmen guards Treyce Spurlock and Cameron Carmical provided a lift off the bench with eight points each.


Senior center Dalton Ledbetter scored 16 points and junior guard Cody Collett added 15 for the Lions.
