To promote the scenic trails in the Black Mountain Off Road Adventure Area, the city of Evarts and Harlan County, the Evarts Tourism and Convention Commission will host a Trail Town Trail Run on Nov. 30, beginning at 10 a.m.

“All riders participating in this run will not need a permit to ride the park on this day only,” said commission clerk Kristi Lamb. “The ride will begin at the north Evarts RV Park and will cover approximately 25 miles. After the ride is finished, dinner will be served at the north Evarts RV Park. This event is not just for ATV riders, it’s for trucks, buggies, mountain bikes, hikers — anyone and everyone is invited to attend.”

President Janice Napier suggested the commission look into hosting a festival themed around the FX series “Justified,” which has a story line set in Harlan County.

“They’ve used our culture, our history and our people for their story lines. I think it’s only natural they would also want to help promote our area,” said Napier. “We are an area that needs all the help they can get right now. We have a history of hospitality and people who visit here see it first hand. It’s just getting the people here. Once they visit, they are hooked by what they see and experience.”

Napier said if “just one of the Justified characters” would agree to come and participate in the festival it would bring “thousands of people to the area.”

“We need to begin working on this as soon as we can,” said Napier and everyone agreed.
